Change Flu, Glasgow North Regeneration Agency

By admin • October 9th, 2009

All organizations are at times subject to externally generated decisions and changes that staff often have little control over. In this environment people can feel overwhelmed and lose focus and impetus.

That’s when they need a dose of Change Flu – A crisis management programme, which help each individuals experience firsthand the challenges of change in a controlled, fun scenario exercise and to learn the techniques for thriving in a changing environment. In the action-packed half day, the participants are given roles in Incident Teams. Each team is asked to manage the unfolding crisis and tested on their ability to respond positively under pressure.

The activities are designed to raise awareness in:

  • The effects of change on confidence, self-esteem, positive attitude and the ability to remain relaxed.

The carefully crafted activities also test and reinforce key change management skills including:

  • Managing communication – experiencing the impact of flows of sometimes conflicting information, which requires the team to put into place effective processes for reading – reflecting – conferring – deciding – actioning
  • Managing documentation – testing the resilience of teams under pressure to meet documentation standards and achieve targets
  • Analysing information – suspending assumptions and making sense of data received
  • Decision making – developing a sense of team accountability around decision making

“This organisation invests heavily in its people and consistently values bringing them together throughput the year. The Arches is a difficult venue acoustically to work in but with the help of a fantastic AV team we pulled it off. I thoroughly enjoyed working with my colleague Sharon McNeish of Bold Brackenbridge who designed the programme. As a natural actress I can’t quite make up my mind whether the funniest bit was her being pulled in on a stretcher or acting as our Health Secretary! All in all a great day”

Testimonials

“Change Flu”, Glasgow North Regeneration Agency Whole Staff Away Day, The Arches, Glasgow (11th September 2009)

“I wanted to drop you a quick note to say how great the feedback has been following our away day last Friday at The Arches. Staff have commented on how much they enjoyed the session and even the most hardened cynic admitted to enjoying themselves! It’s been a long, long time since I have felt such a buzz of excitement and positivity at a training day. I know people have taken on board your message when you hear them say “remember Norma said on Friday” and then quote something from the day. Thank you so much for making this a great day.”

- Nancy Burns, Head of Employability, GNRA

“Room full of laughter, fast action and good insights to our behaviour. We couldn’t have had a better day studying the effects of change , developing our own learning and gaining further motivation to keep moving forward. Having had the opportunity to reflect on our own best practice and gain new tools and strategies we are confident in the actions we will follow through back at the work place.”

- Catherine Lang, Chief Executive, GNRA
